Magic Leap has an internet browser called Helios which supports 3D websites. At this time limited 3D holographic objects are supported, but a new fully 3D definition will evolve using a 3D Javascript that is reported to be available 1st Quarter 2019. My interest in Magic Leap Enhanced Reality glasses is for developing my 3D website “gotgrail.com” BOTH with the newly announced and still evolving 3D Javascript from Magic Leap as well as developing a native holographic application in LuminOS. If I can do this, then it will be worthwhile to extend the model to explore Johannes Kepler’s Mysterium Cosmographicum or Mystery of the Cosmos written in 1596. Kepler believed he found the model of the solar system by inserting the five regular Platonic solids exactly within each other to define the planetary orbits. Placing the dodecahedron in the Earth orbit is what I did on my website https://gotgrail.com with the radius of the dodecahedron being exactly one astronomical unit (A.U. == distance between the sun and the Earth). It turns out that adding the other Platonic solids is only off by about 10%. So I can add the other planets and Platonic solids to the model. Potentially by doing this in Magic Leap using the LuminOS, I can have this model display in the middle of my living room and expand and shrink it by hand gestures. This would allow a fresh new look at this idea by Kepler and revisit it in the modern age, which previously could only been envisaged by an elaborate wood or metal model that would be extremely difficult to make.
About Doug
Doug has worked at Exxon doing CAD graphics and Process Control Programming with Fortran and CDC Assembler language. He has a degree in Computer Science from Rutgers (class of 1987), and has worked thirty years for AT&T Labs, doing mostly Unix, MAC & PC development with C/C++ and Perl programming.
